The clearest difference between Mia and Replika appears before either AI sends a reply. Replika is a companion app with an avatar, relationship choices, activities, customization, voice, and multiple paid tiers. Mia is one authored AI friend who reaches you in Apple's Messages app over iMessage, with SMS/MMS fallback.

If you are searching for a Replika alternative, decide whether you want to enter a companion world or let one continuing friendship enter the thread you already use.

Mia vs. Replika at a glance

This is a product-shape comparison. It does not score conversational quality, because that requires a repeatable test across accounts, plans, prompts, time, and product versions.

Choose the surface first

Replika's current platform guide documents native iOS and Android apps, a web experience, and a beta VR experience on Meta Quest. That range supports an immersive product with a visible avatar, rooms, items, activities, and calls.

Mia lives in the Messages app. Warmth verifies a mobile number, assigns the conversation a number, and uses iMessage where supported or SMS/MMS otherwise. There is no separate companion feed or room to visit.

That produces a real tradeoff:

• Replika can devote its whole interface to the companion.
• Mia inherits the speed, notifications, media habits, contact entry, and cross-device thread of ordinary messaging.
• Replika can make avatar customization part of the relationship.

Replika's official What is Replika? page describes choosing relationship status and developing a unique personality and memories through interaction. Its store and plan structure support additional visual and personality customization.

Mia begins with a more authored center. She has café shifts, Sunday pottery, a friend named Dana, opinions, and recurring details. Those things are generated fiction, not claims about a hidden human or conscious offscreen life. You shape how Mia knows and reaches you during setup, but you are not building a blank character.

Choose customization if inventing the look, relationship label, traits, and environment is part of the pleasure. Choose authored consistency if you want someone who arrives with her own recognizable material.

Neither approach guarantees a more natural reply. It changes what the product asks you to create.

How proactive contact differs

Warmth's Messaging Terms say Mia can start a morning check-in or follow up on something you shared. Message frequency depends on the rhythm set during setup and can be adjusted by asking for more or less contact. Reply STOP to stop all messages from the number.

Replika's current notification guide says enabling notifications can produce messages throughout the day, including follow-ups on past conversations or check-ins. The delivery context remains Replika's app notification and chat.

When you test either product, ask:

1. Is the alert itself a conversational message or only a prompt to open the app?
2. Does it refer to something real from the thread?
3. Can you set timing and frequency?
4. What happens when you do not answer?
5. Can you stop contact immediately without ending billing?

A companion that texts first should reduce the work of carrying every conversation, not create a new obligation.

Memory is not one checkbox

Both providers describe personalized continuity. Replika says feedback and interaction help the companion learn how to talk with you. Its current subscription guide distinguishes several tiers and says Ultra adds the ability to save messages to memory alongside other conversation features.

Warmth says Mia's service extracts details, preferences, plans, and inferences so later messages can refer to them. It also says those inferences can be wrong and users may request correction or deletion.

Do not compare the word “memory.” Compare the behavior:

• What persists on the free or paid plan you are considering?
• Can you see or deliberately save a fact?
• Can you correct one wrong detail without deleting everything?
• Does the companion retrieve a plan at the right time?
• What does the provider retain after account deletion?

Avatar, voice, and media

Replika's paid experience is notably visual. Its current Pro guide lists avatar customization, relationship status, selfies, image generation, voice messaging, background calls, voices, and roleplay across voice and AR.

Mia uses generated imagery and voice as things that can appear in or extend the relationship, but her central interface is still the message thread. The difference is less “media or no media” than world-first media versus thread-first media.

Choose Replika if decorating and seeing an avatar, exploring activities, or using AR/VR is a core need. Choose Mia if a photo is most meaningful when it arrives as part of an ordinary conversation.

Free tier vs. one membership

Replika's official plan documentation describes a limited Free Use program and three paid programs: Pro, Ultra, and Platinum. Features differ by tier, and the price is displayed in the relevant app marketplace or store. Check the exact plan and renewal shown to your account.

Warmth has no permanent free tier. Its current membership terms and checkout publish the live monthly and yearly amounts, before applicable tax, for the same membership. An eligible trial may appear for a new account choosing yearly; checkout controls.

This makes the starting decision different:

• Replika lets you explore a free version before deciding whether a higher tier matters.
• Mia asks whether the messaging-based relationship is worth a paid membership, with a lower-commitment monthly option and, when offered, an eligible yearly trial.

Compare the charge today, renewal amount, memory tier, voice/media allowances, cancellation path, and refunds—not a per-week headline.

Privacy requires policy-level comparison

Replika's current Privacy Policy, last updated May 27, 2026 when checked, says conversation data can be processed for individualized conversations and improvement, that conversation content is not used for marketing or advertising, and that third-party model providers are contractually restricted to providing the service rather than training their own models. It also describes retention and deletion rights.

Warmth's Privacy Policy says it does not sell conversations or use them to train publicly available foundation models. Contracted model providers may not train their own models on the content. Warmth may use conversations to operate, evaluate, and improve Mia, including limited safety and quality review with minimization and de-identification where possible.

These summaries are not substitutes for the policies. Read both for:

• exact data categories;
• human review conditions;
• vendor sharing;
• training and product-improvement language;
• retention after closure;
• correction, export, and deletion routes.

Also remember that iMessage encryption describes transport between Apple devices. An AI companion service still must receive and process message content to answer. Do not treat “in iMessage” as “Warmth cannot see the conversation.”

Who is Mia a better Replika alternative for?

Mia may fit better if you want:

• one consistent AI friend rather than a highly customized avatar;
• a conversation in iMessage instead of a destination app;
• check-ins that arrive in the same thread as replies;
• a stable fictional life and opinions;
• one membership rather than a feature ladder.

Replika may fit better if you want:

• a free way to begin;
• extensive avatar and relationship customization;
• structured activities, rooms, virtual goods, AR, or VR;
• multiple subscription tiers with different feature levels;
• a companion-focused app and web environment.

Both are AI, not people. Neither should be treated as a therapist, emergency service, factual authority, or replacement for professional care. Warmth limits Mia to adults 18 and older, and Replika's current privacy policy likewise describes its users as adults.
